Fall is practically here and - although it's still hot as Hades here in South Florida -I know some areas on the map are starting to feel the changing of the season. As I type this blog post, it's about a week away from September 1st, which represents the coming of Fall. In the U.S., Labor Day holiday is the unofficial kick-off. For those of us in the Southern areas, however, we continue to battle the heat of Summer until maybe Halloween, when that subtle shift in the air can truly be felt.

As for fashion, there's not too much I want to try, add, or need to replace in my closet this year. I'm somewhat at the end of the road when it comes to building out wardrobe, having acquired everything I feel allows me maximum flexibility when it comes to creating outfits. I went on a hoarding spree this past Spring, emptying out my carts before tariff madness made everything 50 - 60% more expensive. That spree included a few transitional weather items I knew would be useful for Fall. In short, I somewhat pre-shopped for the season months ago. That doesn't mean a few pieces haven't caught my eye since. Some are filling gaps in my wardrobe, while others are trendy items I know will fit seamlessly in with what's already in my closet to create classic looks beyond the trend cycle. Check out the pieces on my radar and let me know if they're on yours too!

End-of-Summer Colors and Patterns

Bold orange, deep green, and yellow tones are great transitional season colors between Summer to Fall. The orange maxi dress below is something I've had my eye on since last Fall and discovering it still available this year in my size, I decided it was time to bring that baby home. If a year later I'm still drawn to an item of clothing, that tells me it might be time to get that thing out of my cart and into my closet. The orange straw tote bag will be great for end-of-Summer vacations or casual weekend outings to the farmer's market or pumpkin patch. The green and black plaid waist skirt is an experimental item I have grand ideas for. Stay tuned to this blog and my YouTube channel to see if those ideas pan out in a good way!

Reds and Purples

For as much as I love a good neutral and basic, I maintain a soft spot for color. Whether utilized as a POP of interest to liven up a simple outfit or going full saturation, reds and purples are my favorite Fall tones to spice things up. Purple is having a bit of a comeback this Fall, featured on a few runways, so I'm taking advantage of the popularity to pick up items that complement what I already own. Burgundy and red have been hot for a couple of years and are still going strong. Plum tones are being added to the palette - a nice mix between burgundy and purple - and I am here for it! The items below are of interest because they fill gaps I've identified in my wardrobe and, being inexpensive, couldn't escape my eyes or this list.

Beige and Brown Tones

Yes, brown tones are still going strong for Fall 2025! It's a softer and sometimes more casual alternative to the more formal black. Some may consider brown more blah than classic like black, and that's OK. I find both shades doable and classy enough for my personal style. One of the best things about brown being on trend is that I can finally find interesting shoes in what would be considered "nude" for my skin tone. The ankle wrap sandals on the list below are to replace an almost 10-year old pair that's seen its final Summer. Also, included are a few elegant looking belts I wanted to add since I'm a belt lover. Being a bit on the petite side (not in height, but body-build) belting things really helps with creating a waist and shapely silhouette. The multi-belt trend is also something I'm itching to try, but if it doesn't work out for me, these will still come in handy.

With animal print taking center stage beyond the leopard variety this year, I added cow-print to the roster. A cow-print belt that served me well for over 20 years- going in and out of style- barely fits anymore and it's high time for a replacement. While searching for the belt, I stumbled onto a nice cow-print bag. Will I wear them together? Probably not, but I can totally see each one bringing a fun and funky vibe to any outfit I put them with.

Classic Black

Speaking of the color black, I need to replace a pair of black scrunchy boots, which have made the list below. Two very Beyonce-inspired items caught my eye this season; an interesting newspaper print shirt (if you've seen snippets of her concert online or was fortunate to attend, you know EXACTLY why this print appealed to me), and a double-buckled western style belt. Double-buckle belts were big about 10 years ago, but I wasn't feeling them then as I'm feeling them now. As for everything else on the black list, there's nothing I reasonably need in this category. The pieces in the collage below are simply items that speak to me and could very well end up finding a home in my closet (if they're not already on the way😉).

Navy and Shades of Blue

Navy is my baby and my 1st alternative to black. Although I'm a fan of brown, navy blue gives me that almost-black elegance I'm sometime going for in an outfit. The navy polo on the list is my second shot at this style since I already own the exact same top in white. There was a navy and white striped top I had in my arsenal for over a decade and finally parted with. Honestly, I wasn't wearing it anymore since it had been worn and washed to within an inch of its life. The white areas had gone dingy, but I refused to give it up until I found its replacement (currently on the way to me as I type). The navy velvet blazer in my fashion plan is both serious and playful. I can't wait to style it up for elevated casual or elegant ensembles. The blue list is fairly short because the need isn't there. These pieces are strictly delicious wants!

Silver and Shades of Gray

Metallics aren't as on trend as they've been in previous seasons, but for me they are a basic. They add a little razzle dazzle to any outfit, whether casual or more elevated and dressed up. Acquiring a silver metallic pair of flats was a genuine need for outfits where heels are too dressy for a vision I may want to portray. Crystal adornments on sweaters and tops are surely having a surge of popularity for Fall and I'm trying it out. I purchased a mauve sweater with crystal adornments for Spring and although I never got a chance to wear it or feature it in a video, my obsession with it remained strong enough to purchase a similar one in gray for Fall. The one piece I'm intrigued to try is a lightweight feather trimmed sweater. It's not a piece I typically go for and, though feather trim is trending for Fall/Winter, I'm keenly interested in adding it to my wardrobe for a bit of fun. Being fairly inexpensive, this is something I'm willing to try without fear of breaking the bank.

Already Dreaming of Christmas

Christmas may be months away but feels imminent nonetheless. I've already seen my first Christmas commercial, so it's not out of the ordinary to think about holiday attire to which I've already contributed to. A little something special caught my eye and I wasted no time pulling the trigger. This tartan pleated midi skirt had been in my holiday folder since last Winter. When I saw "Last One" boldly displayed on the photo, I immediately added it to my cart for checkout. Fortunately, it was in my size, making the purchase quick and easy. The design is somewhat unusual with its various color panels, so it's either going to be stunningly beautiful or an epic fail when I style it up. The challenge of taking an item that teeters on ghastly and making it gorgeous always gets my creative juices flowing.
